Will my student have an email account? HSE Schools provides students with a Microsoft Office 365 account, which includes email, calendar, and cloud storage (OneDrive). This account also includes the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) with up to 5 FREE downloads per student to install on personal devices and home computers/laptops!

Can I forward my student’s emails to my account for the purpose of supervision? Students in grades K-6 with these accounts cannot have mail forwarded to an email address outside of the school’s domain. This is because students in those grades can only send and receive email from other teachers or students inside HSE’s domain. Students in grades 7-12 can have their email forwarded, because these limitations are not in place for their accounts. Regardless, parents are encouraged to know the login information for their student’s accounts and be aware of activity inside of those accounts.

Don’t students have to be 13 or older? Accounts can be created for students under the age of 13. Please refer to your school’s handbook regarding account information. In the event that a family wishes to opt out of accounts provided by the school, they must inform the school in writing within two weeks of the receipt of the handbook.

Can I just have my child use our own account? HSE does not recommend that families set up their own accounts. The use of common domain email and drive accounts allows for improved efficiencies and collaboration between teachers and students. For example, if a teacher uses OneDrive or OneNote to share documents and notebooks with students, the teacher must know all of the students' emails quickly and easily, and a variety of emails would cause an issue. The OneNote feature of Office365 will be used by many teachers, and this feature is more easily shared and used for collaboration using common emails. There are features of Office365 that will not function outside of the 'hsestudents.org' account domain.

My student has forgotten his/her password for the school created account. What is the procedure? For account password resets, please have your student contact their building's technology specialist. 

Are students required to have an Apple ID? All students have a Managed Apple ID tied to their HSE issued email address. Students using a rented device are required to use their HSE managed Apple ID. This is their full school email and normal school password. They do not require any other personal or family Apple ID. For students bringing their own device (BYOD), they can use a family/personal Apple ID OR enroll in HSE’s Mosyle.

Enrolling your personal iPad (BYOD) in HSE’s Mosyle Manager App:

1. Open Safari on the iPad
2. Go to https://enroll.mosyle.com/user/hseschools.
3. Sign in with student’s managed Apple ID (This is the student’s school email).
4. Mosyle will ask to install a profile on your iPad. Select “Allow”.
5. After downloading the profile open the “Settings” app.
6. Select the “Enroll in Hamilton Southeastern Schools” option on the left.
7. Select enroll my iPad and enter the iPad passcode.
8. Enter your Managed Apple ID password.
9. After the device is enrolled, you will start seeing pop-ups stating Mosyle is attempting to install apps. Select install.
10. To install apps, open the newly installed Mosyle Manager App and choose the install option for apps you want.

What if I forget my login information? Please contact your building technology specialist for rented devices or use iForgot for BYODs. 

Can we put our own personal apps on a rented device? No. HSE Manages and Supervises all app installation on rented devices.

How do I know which apps to put on the iPad? Each course has unique needs, so a variety of apps will be needed. However, teachers, teams, and schools may choose to use some common productivity apps. All needed and pre-approved apps are available in the Mosyle Manager App, which is preinstalled on all rented devices. A family can enroll a personal device in the Mosyle Manager App, and then download needed apps. If you need assistance enrolling your personal device, please contact your building technology specialist. 

What happens if a device gets stolen? Students and families are to report the theft of a rental device immediately to their Building Administrator and the Building Technology Specialist of their school. Families should file a police report if a personally owned device (BYOD) is stolen.

How does the school ensure safety and security of devices and prevent theft? It is everyone’s responsibility to remain vigilant in keeping devices safe and secure. ‘Find My’ is automatically enabled on rental devices & BYODs enrolled by the families in Mosyle manager. ‘Find My’ should be enabled on BYODs to help located lost or stolen devices. Families are responsible to activate this feature on BYOD if they choose NOT to enroll them in HSE’s Mosyle manager. This feature only works if enabled on the device, if the device is connected to Wi-Fi, and if it has a battery charge. 

How does the district address wear and tear on rented devices? The district collects rented devices each summer for cleaning and resetting. Similar to the process used with textbook wear and tear, necessary repairs will occur before returning devices to students.

If a student damages or steals another student’s device, who is liable? Student Handbook policies in regard to vandalism or purposefully damaging someone else’s property are followed.

Set up Wi-Fi (Rented & BYOD)

• Tap settings.
• Tap Wi-Fi.
• Tap HSE-CORP when on district property or connect to your home network.
• Enter Username and Password (Student Information can be found in Skyward, or by contacting your Building Technology Specialist). 

BYOD Users Only

Install Securly (Securly is required on all devices to access the internet on district property). 

• Visit securly.com/ssl 
• Tap download the certificate.
• Go to settings.
• Tap profile downloaded.
• Tap install at the top left, and again in the pop-up. 
• Tap general.
• Scroll to the bottom and tap certificate trust settings.
• Make sure the slider is green/ slid to the right next to securly.com.

Enroll in Mosyle Manager App

• Go to enroll.mosyle.com/user/hseschools
• Enter your student Apple ID (Your school email address) and password.
• Hit sign in.
• Once the profile downloads open settings.
• Tap Enroll in Hamilton Southeastern Schools.
• Sign in once again with your Student Apple ID if prompted.
• When asked to approve the profile, select yes.
• You will see prompts asking if you would like to allow Mosyle to install Apps, tap yes.

Downloading Apps (Rented & BYOD)

The Mosyle Manager App is available on ALL rented iPads and any BYOD enrolled in Mosyle Manager. Apps must be downloaded/updated while connected to Wi-Fi and may take some time. Please be sure to install apps prior to need to prevent any issues with download time. 

• Open the Mosyle Manager App.
• Choose OK for permission prompts.
• Find the app(s) needed.
• Tap Install/Update. 

Items to be Returned

• iPad 
• School issued iPad case.

Students will receive a charging brick and cord when issued their first device. This is for the student to keep and use throughout their time at HSE. The brick and cord will not be returned at the end of each year. Each student will only receive one brick and one cord. 

Prior to Returning the Device

• Carefully clean the device using a soft cloth. Do not use any liquids to clean the device.
• Remove any stickers, papers, tape, pictures, etc. from the case or under the case. 
• Take a date/timestamped photo of the iPad with the iPad turned on and displaying the student's login information. This photo will assist in verifying the condition of the iPad upon return.

Remove any Restrictions on the Device 

• Open settings.
• Tap screen time.
• Tap turn off  screen time.
• Enter screen time password if prompted.
• Tap turn off screen time.

Remove the Passcode

• Open settings.
• Tap touch ID & passcode.
• Enter passcode.
• Tap turn off passcode.
• Reenter passcode 
• Tap turn off.

Return the Device

• Bring the device to school.
• Return the device to the Building Technology Specialist.
• Receive the *return receipt indicating obvious damaged status.

*Further detailed inspections will occur post return and charges may be applied if damage is discovered.
